THE TIKI BAR BE OPEN

A pirate with a hunger for gold steals an idol from a land that can’t be reached by boat—even by those who know how to find it. Only instead of controlling the idol, it controls him. Now the artifacts of that golden theft have found their way into a Las Vegas Tiki bar, but something may have very well come with them.

“Now there be five of ’em, captain,” his first mate called out.

“Let the scalawags come!” the captain responded. “Let them come, if they think they can catch the Black Falcon.”

William Tobias Faulkner was the terror of the East Indies, swooping down on the unexpecting and stealing their goods with impunity. His favorite target: the East India Trading Company. They could hardly get a ship across the Indian Ocean without meeting up with Captain Faulkner and his men. Finally, the East India Trading Company had had enough and sent a fleet of mercenary ships to find the captain and remove him from the seas—by any means necessary.

A decoy vessel had been set as a sacrifice. Filled with spices and fabric from the Orient, it would be too much for Captain Faulkner to resist. They were right, he didn’t, but just as he and his crew had plundered their bounty, three ships appeared on the horizon—three ships bound for the Falcon.

Finding the Falcon was one thing, catching her was a completely different task all together, for the Black Falcon was the swiftest schooner on the waters. Its double mast and shallow draft allowed the Falcon and her crew to outrun many a Dutch Fleut or Spanish Galleon, especially in the hands of a captain like Faulkner.

When Faulkner took the sacrificial vessel, he was on his way to find the greatest bounty of his career. During a game of bones in Tortuga, Captain Faulkner had become the proud owner of a map to Skull Island and the treasures it held. He hadn’t won the map as much as acquired it. According to legend, the island had once been home to an ancient mythical race of one-eyed giants who mined gold ore from deep inside the mountains of the island paradise. They smelted the ore in the rivers of lava flowing from the island’s active volcano. Expert craftsman, these giants, they turned the gold into precious pieces of jewelry, chalices, and such. But their crowning achievement was a golden idol said to possess mystical powers.

Faulkner wanted that gold, and even more, he wanted that idol, for with it, he could truly rule the seas. He pulled out his map and pointed the Falcon toward the island, the mercenary ships hot on his trail. As he drew near, the water turned to mist, so thick the human eye could not navigate through. Faulkner stuck to the map, as one by one, his pursuers fell to the coral reefs or the Sirens who hunted in these waters.

With the help of the map, Faulkner brought the Falcon to the shores of Skull Island, where he and his crew disembarked.
